“Everything is permissible as long as it is fantastic.†– Carlo Mollino
April 28th, 2014, New York, NY – Ramon Silva is pleased to present Channeling Mollino, at the Contemporary Art Fair NYC. Channeling Mollino is the latest collaboration between visual artist Ramon Silva and curator Larry Ossei-Mensah, who presented their critically acclaimed installation project Becoming Beyoncé during Armory Week 2014 at the Spring/Break Art Show. This newest exhibition explores the work of Italian artist Carlo Mollino and will be on view during Frieze Week New York at the Contemporary Art Fair NYC from May 9 – May 11, 2014.
Channeling Mollino is an interactive performance piece exploring the Polaroid Portraiture of Italian artist Carlo Mollino. Multi-disciplinary artist Ramon Silva will actively reinterpret these works as he channels himself as Mollino living in today’s landscape. This exhibition endeavors to investigate a series of queries that correlates with Mollino’s and Silva’s artistic practices. What would Mollino’s Polaroids look like today? What would the muses look like? What other forms of art making in relation to the photographs would he pursue? Silva makes a connection to Mollino’s multi-faceted oeuvre that included architecture, furniture and car design by utilizing many forms of media to create his art. Like Mollino, Silva creatively oscillates between a variety of mediums to express his dynamic, visual vocabulary.  During the exhibition Silva will transform an art fair booth into a pop up artist studio complete with visually inspired backdrops and props referencing Mollino’s Villa where this series of works were originally produced. In this space Silva will be conducting a series of “sittings†with his muses where the main images produced during these “sittings†will be a Polaroid photograph of the subject which is the entry point into Mollino’s work. Video will also be captured accompanied by a soundtrack designed by Silva for each muse’s interaction. A social media element will be incorporated where a mobile capture from the “sitting†will be on view at hashtag #ChannelingMollino.
