I stumbled upon a really great article via LinkedIn published by Entrepreneur.com about the importance of cultivating genuine relationships vs looking for an ends to a means through networking. People always ask me, 'How are you able to connect with so many people?' The answer lies in that fact that I'm truly interested in people. It is this sincere interest in cultivating holistic relationships that has been the catalyst in my development of dynamic connections and friendships.

Not everyone can be a connector, but developing this skill to the best of your ability is imperative to hone, particularly in this murky economic climate. Whether you are looking for a gig, starting a business or looking for a mate the ecosystem of relationships that you build will be an essential factor in the success of any those endeavors. Dotcom made millions and had celebrity co-signs from people like Kanye West to Will.i..am for MegaUpload. If you haven't picked up this month's issue of Fast Company, please make sure to check it out. Robert Safian wrote a brilliant piece on 'Generation Flux' which the article defines as, "a mind-set that embraces instability, that tolerates–and even enjoys–recalibrating careers, business models, and assumptions."

The chaotic pace of our global economy has forced a generation of individuals to learn how to quickly adapt in order to keep up with "the Jones", feed their curiosity and continually challenge themselves. All you freelancers, creatives and entrepreneurs know exactly what I'm talking about. The zig zag in your career path/resume is not a bad thing and this article reaffirms that school of thought. Ducking through a crowd of tourists at Rockefeller Center, the singer Cee Lo Green took a breather during rehearsals for NBC’s annual tree-lighting concert on Nov. 30. But between a shopping detour at Swarovski Crystal and last-minute talks with the show’s producer, there wasn’t much time to rest.

It’s a pace that Cee Lo, as he is also known, is accustomed to. In the last year, he has won a Grammy Award for a song that became a blockbuster hit despite its unprintable title (officially bowdlerized as “Forget You”), become a celebrity judge on NBC’s talent show “The Voice” and, through a calculated media blitz orchestrated by his managers, broken through as a face of mainstream pop culture after nearly two decades as a cult figure.

During Art Basel last week, I got a chance to briefly chat with David Adjaye and I walked always from our conversation not only energized, but totally inspired. Beyond being a follow Ghanaian, Adjaye is quickly redefining the landscape of what is possible in the architectural and design space. On top of that to be named Designer of the Year, provides me with an added layer of motivation to strive for excellence in all my future endeavors. "We were building mobile and web apps and we spent our time working in cafes, but we felt we were being too unproductive. And it was too expensive," says Mohammad Khatib. So he and some friends rented a storefront and invited others to join them–a space, among the first of its kind, to foster tech startups in the Palestinian territories. But even now, nearly a year later, nobody has joined.
