Rush Arts Gallery and Corridor Gallery are core programs of the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, a 501 © 3 organization founded in 1995 by brothers Russell, Danny and Joseph Simmons. The galleries are dedicated to promoting the diverse creative practices of the emerging artistic community and promote experimental ventures in visual production, curatorial work, performance and community involvement. In 2008, both galleries were awarded the Mayor’s Award for Arts and Culture from the Department of Cultural Affairs for their pioneering exhibition and educational programming. All programs are free and open to the public and are sponsored in part by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts.
The galleries are headed by Nico Wheadon (Interim Curatorial Director, Rush Arts Gallery), Nina Zeifvert (Exhibitions & Marketing Coordinator, Corridor Gallery), Meridith McNeal (Director of Education), David Camacho (Education Coordinator) and Sameeh Alderazi (Education Associate).
